1,100 dead dolphins, drifting off the coast of France

Dolphins have signs of being cut, the fins disappear and what shocked the researchers the most is that 1,100 dolphins died like that in 3 months.

According to the Daily Mail, this collective death is thought to be due to overfishing, which prompted activists to ring a warning bell.

"Never before have the number of dolphins died so large," said Willy Daubin, a researcher at La Rochelle University.

In just three months, the number of dead whales has surpassed the level of last year and the highest in 40 years.

Daubin said there was a case of an accident when dolphins caught in an industrial fishing net. But this year the number of dead fish has skyrocketed, making researchers think.

"What kind of fishing device or device caused such a mass death?", Daubin asked.

The researchers brought the body of dolphins to the analysis and found severely cut levels. In order to protect the fishing net, fishermen often cut the body of the fish until it is separated from the net.

Environment Minister Francois de Rugy rushed to attend La Rochelle University to find out the problem and set up a solution.

One of the options is the installation of wave generators on fishing vessels. Once activated, this device will signal to drive away the dolphin.

But activists warned that the solution was ineffective because fishermen could not activate the device when sailing. Fishermen may worry that the device repels other fish species, affecting fish productivity. They can only turn on the device if detected ship inspection.

Once the number of fishing boats increases, these devices are also not a solution as they affect the habitat of marine mammals.

Scientists expressed concern that, at the current rate of catching, dolphins will soon become extinct.

The level of human consumption of seafood has doubled compared to 50 years ago, and this level may prevent marine life from growing.
